Jean Katherine Hewitson, 82, Hannawa Falls and San Salvador, Bahamas. Jean was born on March 3, 1927, in Cornwall, Ontario, the daughter of Wilfred and Cathella (Blackwood) Stewart. Jean attended school in Cornwall, Ontario where she excelled in art and earned several academic medals.

She attended Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and worked as a technical librarian for Courtauld’s Canada, Rayon Manufacturing. Upon her marriage she devoted her time to raising her family and spent her free time volunteering as a driver for St. Lawrence County DSS and the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild.

Jean is survived by her husband, G. Lionel, four sons, Eric and Ranata of Potsdam, Stewart and Kim Norman of Potsdam, Mark and Susan of Hannawa Falls and one daughter, Sheryl of Hannawa Falls. She has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Grandchildren include Julia and Jason Sampson of Jersey City, NJ, Amie Raymonda and Paul Cameron of Potsdam, Bradley of Potsdam, Shane and Amy Hewitson of Rochester, Henry and Jaime Elwyn of Syracuse, Christina Elwyn of Potsdam, Andrew McKenna and Jena Zaslow of Seattle, WA and Matthew McKenna and Kira LaRose of Potsdam. She has one sister Elizabeth Stewart and Stanley Brown of Cornwall, Ontario.

Jean is predeceased by her parents, brother Robert and sister Pat and a son Timothy.

Jean enjoyed several medium’s of art, walking in the woods, swimming, reading and annual extended vacations with her husband on Columbus Isle, San Salvador, Bahamas.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam, NY. A funeral service will be held in the Community Center at the First Presbyterian Church in Potsdam, NY on Saturday at 11am with Rev. Dr. Richard Will celebrant. Burial will be in the spring at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam. Jean passed away on February 22, 2010. Donations in her memory can be made to the Potsdam Public Library.
